Yogi Tea Recipe

The Tea

This blend came to my attention a few years ago and I swear to Gaia, it is a game changer over cold & flu season

I like to make this up in big batches and then store it in jars in the fridge. I keep meaning to freeze it in ice cube trays – I may try this today and give you an update in a couple of days to see how it turns out!

Each one of these ingredients has its own amazing immune boosting, viral & bacterial fighting properties, and to be fair, if you like your spices like me, you should enjoy it (ha ha ha! *nervous laugh*)

I limit myself to one or two a day if I spot the signs of a cold approaching, or if I'm in the middle of a full-blown cold, I'll drink it throughout the day.

  • A big pan of water – a good 1.5-2 litres worth
  • 15 x Cloves
  • 15 x Black Peppercorns
  • 4-6 Cinnamon Sticks
  • 15 x Cardamom Pods
  • 6 x Slices of Fresh Ginger Root
  • 1 x Tea Bag
  • Add all your dry ingredients/spices to the pan first and toast them off for a few seconds, then turn down the heat & slowly add your water – be careful with this bit as it might spit it back at you as you pour it in.
  • Add your ginger, stir through and bring it to boil
  • Turn the heat right down & add your tea bag
  • Stir and keep topping up the water as necessary
  • I can leave this going/simmering for anywhere from 30 mins up to an hour
  • You can turn the heat off completely at this point – leave the lid on – and then leave it to stew for up to three hours (Obviously the longer you leave it, the stronger it will be)
  • Then strain it through a colander into a bowl/jug/other pan and then bottle or jar it up or freeze it. It’ll keep for up a week in the fridge.

To serve, add a good glug of it to a mug, add honey & lemon to taste if that’s your jam, then top it up with hot water. I like mine with honey & fresh orange or lemon slice, then sometimes throw in an effervescent Vitamin C tablet for extra pazazz

Let me know how you get on with this one! It's definitely a marmite type concoction - you're either going to love or hate it, but one that I think is definitely worth trying!

Have the most wonderful day

FYI - I made a big batch, left it over night to stew a bit more and cool, then poured it into ice cube bags in the morning. I've found that 3-4 ice cubes are good as a once a morning thing, and 5-6 ice cubes for a "I want to kill this cold" kind of day.

Add the ice cubes to a mug, pour over the hot water from the kettle, add a bit of honey or agave and a slice of lemon if you wish and you're good to go!

Enjoy :-)
